Making the Physical Environment Interactive

In his newest Alertbox post, Jakob Nielsen writes that "tiny motors and sensors will make physical objects interactive and create a renaissance for gestural user interfaces. As interface design moves from the screen to the material world, the need for simple, easy to use designs will only increase."

Now, personally I think Nielsen is reaching here, for speech recognition will be the next thing in computer interface, but maybe those of you have seen Spielberg's Minority Report will disagree (incidentally, there's an interesting discussion at BoingBoing--The UI in Minority Report is goofy).
