Position Announcement: CoverWeb Assistant Editor

We have openings for two qualified candidates for the position of CoverWeb Assistant Editor at Kairos, a refereed online journal exploring the intersections of rhetoric, technology, and pedagogy. Each CoverWeb presents webtexts addressing varied perspectives on special topics. Recent past issues have focused on such subjects as disability and technology, new media, portable technologies, and online writing spaces, as well as webtexts adapted from presentations at the annual conference of Computers and Writing.
Duties
The successful candidates will work with the CoverWeb editorial team to produce the yearly spring and fall issues, as well as occasional summer issues. Duties include:
- Reviewing CoverWeb submissions for Editorial Board consideration
- Copy-editing and proofreading accepted webtexts
- Drafting author correspondence
- Uploading files to the Kairos webserver
Desired Skills
Basic knowledge/use of web editors (i.e., Dreamweaver), FTP software, and some HTML is required (xhtml/css foundation preferred). Knowledge of basic web design principles highly desired. Ability to correspond quickly with other editors in several digital environments required (use of IM and email preferred). Ability to communicate effectively with a range of authors and editors from many cultures and with many levels of expertise required. Candidates who can demonstrate their experience in the above skills will be given priority.

Although the production cycle workload varies, assistant editors will spend an average of 2-3 hours per week working for Kairos. Our heaviest production months are typically November/December/January and May/June/July. During these months, an assistant editor spends an average of 5+ hours per week working on Kairos. This position is paid both in gratitude and recognition in the field.
