U.S. Scientists Say They Are Told to Alter Findings
You know, I can't remember the last time I saw a Slashdot frontpage that didn't contain a mix of really good and really bad news. The above link really got me fired up this morning. It's not as though I was unaware of how much corruption these big business interests have brought to scientific research, but I wasn't quite sure how far it had gone.
My thoughts are that each time public funding is cut to these scientists, they have to turn to corporations to replenish the lost funds. Bt these corporations are likely to attach some strings--strings that include professional dishonesty or silence if what the scientists find may prove detrimental to the corporation's profits or public image.
Imagine a Consumer Reports magazine owned by Ford Motor Company. Guess what? Fords are suddenly the safest, sexiest, economical, and valuable cars on the road. Guess what happens when international corporations are the only sources of funding for public research?
