Everyone has heard the old joke that if you put enough monkeys together in front of a computer, eventually they'd type out Hamlet. To see what would really happen, some British researchers placed a computer in a cage with six Sulawesi crested macaques. The result?

At first, said Phillips, "the lead male got a stone and started bashing the hell out of it. "Another thing they were interested in was in defecating and urinating all over the keyboard," added Phillips, who runs the university's Institute of Digital Arts and Technologies.

I guess as people who spend most of our time looking at the writing randomly produced by undergrads sitting in front of their computers, we're hardly shocked by the fact that these macaques were a bit short of literary skill.
