Vintage Games - New Book on History of Gaming

I was pretty happy last week to finally get my advance copy of our new book, Vintage Games: An Insider Look at the History of Grand Theft Auto, Super Mario, and the Most Influential Games of All Time. This is a collaboration with my long-term colleague and good friend Bill Loguidice, an avid collector and co-founder of Armchair Arcade (i.e., we go way back). The book looks gorgeous, all glossy and full-color and crammed with all kinds of images (click here for some photos).

I'm really impressed with how it came out and think it might have more general appeal than Dungeons & Desktops, since that book is focused on role-playing games. VG covers all kinds of games, from Super Mario to Grand Theft Auto, with a few lesser-known gems tossed into the mix. We are also publishing some bonus chapters on Gamasutra, starting already with PONG. Actually, you can get a pretty good idea of the book by reading the PONG chapter, though obviously that's a pretty early game.

If you have any questions about the book, let me know! Dennis, you're acknowledged--and you too, Patty!

The book isn't due until March, but if you plan to buy it, get it now--save $10! :O
